Is it just us or is applying fake eyelashes harder than redoing your maths GCSE? Despite years of practice they still manage to instil a certain sense of fear in us; they’re more daunting than the prospect of applying perfectly symmetrical winged liner or a neat red lip, and that’s saying something.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that fake lashes have come a long way since the days when we were buying the Eyelure Girls Aloud lashes (although they were actually great). Nowadays you can get lash extensions, mink lashes, individuals and even LED lashes, but the latest style to take the beauty industry by storm is magnetic lashes – yes, really – they were the most searched for beauty trend last year and we’ve got everything you need to know about them plus why you need to buy a pair ASAP. Get ready to say goodbye to lash glue forever.

How do they work?

As the name suggests they’re fake eyelashes with teeny tiny magnetic strips attached that hold them in place. That’s right, no more lash glue. Instead of a single strip lash, magnetic lashes come with two strips for each eye both with magnets which cling together with your real lashes in between. Clever eh?

How do you apply magnetic lashes?

First place the ‘top’ lash (the one with magnets on the underside)on the upper lash line like you would if applying a regular strip lash; try not to blink too much as this will move the lash out of position. Then place the ‘bottom’ lash (the one with magnets on top) underneath your top eyelashes and the magnets will do all of the hard work for you.

Do they actually work?

Yes! Loads of people swear by them – make-up artists and celebs included – saying they look great since the band is virtually undetectable and are super lightweight and comfortable to wear. Once you get the technique down they’re super easy to apply – although the first few attempts might require a bit of patience, and because there’s no adhesive they’ll stay place all night without any sticky residue or the need for glue top-ups. Plus, unlike regular strip lashes, you can use them again and again since the magnet never wears out making them a much more cost-effective way to get great lashes. We’re sold.

Where can you buy them?

You can buy magnetic lashes by Eyelure and Ardell from Boots and Superdrug in the UK, including the iconic Ardell Demi Wispie lashes in magnetic form. Or, the brand Lash FX make great magnetic lashes in six different styles so you can be as natural or as extra as you like.
